Insulated bearings include all types of rolling bearings that can prevent current from passing through the path “outer ring – rolling element – inner ring”.
This includes hybrid ceramic bearings and electrically insulated bearings. Hybrid ceramic bearings have the outer and inner rings made of bearing steel, and the rolling elements made of silicon nitride, combined to form an insulated bearing. In addition to having excellent electrical insulation properties, they can operate at higher rotational speeds. The outer surface of the outer ring or inner ring of the insulated bearing has a layer of 100 μm of aluminum oxide, which can withstand 1000V direct current voltage.
Applications of insulated bearings
Whether it is an electrically insulating bearing with a ceramic coating on the inner or outer ring, or a mixed ceramic bearing with rolling elements made of silicon nitride, they can all prevent the flow of current and possess insulation capabilities.
